Premium Nine-Channel Entertainment is Now Within Reach
Positioned between Onkyo’s flagship products and the seven-channel mid-range, the affordable TX-NR929 Network A/V Receiver comes loaded with technology to transform your home into high-resolution heaven. The bounty includes inbuilt Wi-Fi for app-controllable network audio streaming, Bluetooth wireless audio technology, and an expanded selection of online streaming services. Add speakers in two other rooms to distribute music throughout your home, or take advantage of the extra HDMI® output to enjoy HD content on a second display. This heavyweight THX® Select2™ Plus powerhouse has the features to make movie night an unforgettable event, with premium Audyssey MultEQ® XT32 equalization, DTS Neo:X™ upmixing to 11.1 channels (just add a stereo power amp), and universal app control across all three powered zones. With a total of nine 4K-ready HDMI inputs including the frontside MHL™, 4K video upscaling, and a deep reservoir of amplification power to draw upon, this receiver is ready to unveil the full potential of your favorite media.
Onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Streaming Technology
The TX-NR929 connects to the wireless home network without LAN cables or adapters. Send a range of hi-res, lossless, and compressed files to your home theater from smartphone, PC, tablet, NAS, and online sources using our remote control app. Or pair devices for quality wireless streaming using the built-in Bluetooth technology.
Three High Performance Sound Expansion Systems
Audyssey DSX®, Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz, and DTS Neo:X™ expansion systems allow you to choose your preferred speaker setup. Audyssey DSX expands 5.1-channel sources to incorporate Wide or Height channels. Pro Logic IIz adds Height channels with stereo source expansion, while DTS Neo:X offers Wides and Heights and supports 11.1-channel upmixing with the addition of an outboard stereo amp.
High-Definition Video in Two Rooms
Now there’s a way to enjoy your hi-def content on a second TV without having to purchase another Blu-ray player or set-top box. Connect your additional display using the receiver’s Zone 2 HDMI output to enjoy the same program, or two different HD sources, in both rooms.
App-Controllable Multi-Zone Audio
This receiver features Powered Zone 2 and Powered Zone 3 outputs. You can assign surround channels to power audio in two additional rooms equipped with speakers while preserving a 5.2-channel setup in your theater room. Content is managed via remote app, allowing you to play the same song in all zones using Whole House Mode, or to enjoy a different track in every room.
Audyssey MultEQ® XT32
Audyssey’s top-flight room correction suite equalizes the sound to suit the acoustics of your listening space. High-res filters are applied to all channels—including subwoofers—based on information collected from more than 10,000 individual control points across eight measurement positions.
Digital Processing Crossover Network
Should you wish to bi-amp your front speakers, our onboard digital crossover system precisely separates high and low frequencies into two discrete signals and sends them to the appropriate drivers. Used in conjunction with conventional speakers, or with channel-divider-type speakers (which do not contain crossovers), the sophisticated DSP technology reduces frequency overlap at the crossover point for noticeably clearer sound.
-
THX® Select2™ Plus
THX Select2 Plus components are ideally suited for a room where the screen-to-seat viewing distance is approximately 3 to 4 meters, and the room size is approximately 56 cubic meters. THX Loudness Plus is included in the specification.
-
4K Video Passthrough
Selected Onkyo network receivers are able to pass native or upscaled 4K Ultra HD video content from media player through to a compatible 4K TV display or video projector via HDMI.

-
HDMI® (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)
Transporting high-definition (HD) video, 3D encoded HD video, and multi-channel HD audio, HDMI is the most desirable connection for home entertainment. Onkyo’s HDMI-enabled A/V components send and receive HD signals, connecting components such as Blu-ray Disc players, DVD players, media streamers, and gaming consoles to compatible HDTVs. Recent versions of HDMI also incorporate an ARC (Audio Return Channel) for sending audio from the TV tuner through the connected receiver, and for enabling the use of an overlaid high-definition GUI (Graphical User Interface) on Onkyo A/V receivers.

-
Dolby® TrueHD/Pro Logic® IIz
Dolby® TrueHD
Dolby TrueHD is Dolby’s next-generation lossless technology developed for high-definition disc-based media. Dolby TrueHD audio is bit-for-bit identical to the highest-resolution studio masters. Together with high-definition video, it offers an unprecedented home theater experience. Now listeners can enjoy sound as stunning as the high-definition picture.
Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz
Dolby Pro Logic IIz adds a vertical dimension to your home theater soundstage, delivering an expanded surround-sound experience from any 5.1-channel or stereo source. Dolby Pro Logic IIz enables the inclusion of two Front Height speakers into your surround-sound setup. The Height channels carry ambient, non-directional audio that helps immerse you even more deeply into your movies and games. With Dolby Pro Logic IIz, rain seems to burst from clouds right above you, and helicopters fly realistically overhead.

-
DTS-HD Master Audio™
DTS-HD Master Audio™ is capable of delivering audio that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master. DTS-HD Master Audio™ delivers audio at super-high variable bit rates—24.5 Mbps on Blu-ray Disc—which is significantly higher than standard DVDs. This bit stream is so fast, and the transfer rate is so high, that it can deliver 7.1 audio channels at a sampling frequency of 24 bits—identical to the original. With DTS-HD Master Audio™, you will be able to experience movies and music exactly as the artist intended: clear, pure, and uncompromised.
-
DTS Neo:X™
DTS Neo:X is one of the most advanced upmixing solutions for high-end home theater systems. The software expands stereo, 5.1, and 7.1 audio sources across up to eleven channels in a big variety of speaker configurations. Front Height speakers, for example, carry effects in the vertical dimension (such as planes flying overhead), but also elevate ambient sounds for more depth and realism. Front Wide speakers, on the other hand, expand the soundstage and offer smooth tracking of directional effects. DTS Neo:X provides three modes of operation, including cinema, music, and game.
-
Audyssey DSX®
Audyssey DSX lets you augment a standard 7.1-channel surround set-up with two “front wide” channels*. Two extra speakers expand the width of the soundstage and help to produce a more realistic and immersive listening experience. Alternatively, Audyssey DSX can be configured to deliver “front height” channels. These channels carry non-directional audio that adds a new vertical dimension to your movies and games.
*Front Wide channels are not available with TX-NR616 and TX-NR609.

-
Audyssey MultEQ® XT32/Dynamic Volume®
Audyssey MultEQ® XT32
MultEQ XT32 is Audyssey’s flagship room correction solution. The system collects data from ten thousand individual control points across eight measurement positions, allowing the finer details of a room’s acoustical problems to be corrected. The ultra-high-resolution filters are applied to all channels, including the subwoofers. As well as creating a more harmonious and cohesive soundstage, MultEQ XT32 helps locate directional effects in movie soundtracks and makes dialog more distinct. As Audyssey’s premium system, MultEQ XT32 applies 512x high-resolution filters both to satellites and subwoofers, as well as managing subwoofer crossovers, polarity, delays, and level settings.
Audyssey Dynamic Volume®
This technology allows you to set the volume level that you want and keep it there, without having to constantly adjust it. By anticipating sudden spikes and dips in the audio soundtrack and compensating for them in real time, Audyssey Dynamic Volume ensures consistent volume levels, regardless of the content you’re enjoying. Thanks to Audyssey Dynamic Volume, quiet dialogue is easier to pick up, loud passages retain their impact, and commercials are less intrusive.
-
ISF Video Calibration
ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) video calibration dramatically improves home theatre video by enabling sharper-focused, fuller-resolution images and a more accurate color balance. Turning your A/V receiver into a true video hub, this function ensures that every video source is independently calibrated for your connected high-definition display. Also, ISF video calibration has been shown to improve energy savings in displays and projectors by up to 50%.
-
Qdeo™ Technology
On selected Onkyo receivers/players, interlaced-to-progressive video conversion and scaling are performed by high-quality Qdeo technology from Marvell. Qdeo is a versatile video processor that uses algorithms designed to erase video noise and artifacts such as jaggies and feathering. Played back on a compatible wide-screen display, your Blu-ray Discs and DVDs will look more detailed and cinematic than ever.
-
WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology)
WRAT is based around a low negative-feedback circuit topology that works to reduce signal noise and distortion across the frequency range. A “closed ground-loop circuit” design is employed, in which each circuit has a separate link to the power supply. This helps to cancel individual circuit noise and keep the ground potential free of distortion. High Instantaneous Current Capability (HICC) enables WRAT amplifiers to immediately cancel the speakers’ reflex energy and instantaneously send out the next signal. The same high current better manages speaker impedance fluctuations, which can negatively affect performance.
-
192 kHz/24-Bit Audio DACs
192 kHz/24-bit DACs enable the best possible reproduction of standard and high-definition audio formats.
-
Phase-Matching Bass Boost
The negative effects of phase-shift—or the timing difference between sound waves of different frequencies—can sometimes be heard in audio players when corners are cut in order to increase bass response. While most audio systems have some form of low-frequency enhancement system, often a bigger bass sound comes at the expense of mid-range clarity, and results in a smeared or muddy sound. Our Phase-Matching Bass Boost technology avoids this problem by improving the phase timing to preserve the natural clarity of the mid-range—allowing vocals and strings to shine—while maintaining a smooth, powerful bass response at all volume levels.
-
Zone 3
In addition to a Zone 2 line-out, selected Onkyo A/V receivers feature a Zone 3 line-out that allows an audio source to be distributed to a third room equipped with an amplifier and speakers. Users can play up to three audio sources across three zones simultaneously.
-
Powered Zone 3
Seven-Channel Onkyo Network A/V Receivers
Seven-channel network receivers allow the Front Height and Front Wide channel outputs to be assigned to connect speakers in Zone 2 and Zone 3. Users may easily distribute powered audio to either Zone 2 or Zone 3 without having to change inputs, and retain a five-channel home theater system in the main room. Up to three different audio sources may be distributed to all three zones simultaneously with the addition of a stereo amp in either Zone 2 or Zone 3, and using a corresponding Zone 2/3 line-out.
Nine-channel Onkyo Network A/V Receivers
Nine-channel receivers are able to power Zone 2 and Zone 3 simultaneously using the four additional surround channel outputs, while retaining a five-channel setup for home theater. The user can distribute up to three different audio sources from the receiver across all three zones without the need for an additional stereo amplifier.

-
InstaPrevue™
Selected Onkyo A/V receivers feature licensed InstaPrevue visual input management technology by Silicon Image. InstaPrevue technology displays a series of thumbnail videos on screen representing the available content on devices connected via HDMI. The feature is accessed via the Home Menu screen. InstaPrevue technology makes switching HDMI inputs and choosing content much easier.
-
MHL (Mobile High Definition Link)
MHL (Mobile High Definition Link) is an interface protocol allowing the connection of compatible portable electronic devices such as smart phones to A/V receivers. The protocol transports uncompressed 1080p video stored on smart phone for display on HDTV, with up to 7.1-channels of surround sound. On selected Onkyo network receivers, smart phones can be connected via a designated front-panel MHL/HDMI port. While officially ‘connection agnostic’, MHL cables commonly feature an HDMI plug and Micro USB connector. Once linked to an Onkyo network receiver, the user can control their smart phone using the system remote. Smart phones are recharged upon connection, and no separate power supply for the device is necessary while connected to the receiver.
